Educational Objective
Hanyang Cyber University Graduate School of Counseling and Clinical Psychology
aims to promote the psychological well-being of our society for the practice of
love, which is the founding spirit of Hanyang Academy, and it aims to cultivate
caring and competent counseling and clinical psychology experts who care for
neighbors who are experiencing psychological and emotional difficulties to help
create healthy communities. In a modern society where an increasing number of
people complain of psychological pain and isolation due to alienation and
disconnection, we want to cultivate dedicated and creative experts who can not only
deeply understand humans psychologically and aid in human growth, but also engage
in professional interventions that can promote mental health and increase happiness.
Concept of Talent
The type of talent pursued by our counseling and clinical psychology department lies in the realization of a scientist-expert model that combines the theory and practice of counseling and clinical psychology. We establish expertise in various fields, such as improving the adjustment of maladapted children or problem adolescents, improving family happiness by resolving family conflicts, diagnosing and evaluating psychological problems through various psychological tests, and managing and promoting the mental and physical health of alienated modern people. Furthermore, by sensitively understanding the needs of members of society regarding psychological services and continuously developing the appropriate capabilities and promoting professionalism, we cultivate talented people who have skills in both theory and practice.
- Cultivating psychological counseling experts that deal with the adjustment problems, psychological and emotional problems such as depression and anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, career and learning, and various mental health problems of children, adolescents, and adults (ex. counseling psychologists of the Korean Counseling Psychological Association)
- Cultivating child and youth counseling professionals who help maladjusted children or problematic youth to adapt (ex. state-certified youth counselors)
- Cultivating family counseling experts to help enhance family happiness through the resolution of family conflicts (ex. family therapy experts of the Korean Family Therapy Association)
- Cultivating clinical psychologists who assist in the diagnosis and evaluation of psychological problems through various psychological tests (ex. Nationally certified mental health clinical psychologists/clinical psychology experts of the Korean Psychological Association)
- Cultivating health psychology experts for the management and promotion of the mental and physical health of underprivileged modern people (ex. Health psychology experts of the Korean Psychological Association)
- Cultivating experts in the field of special treatment through integrated department operations with the Department of Children and Families (ex. play therapy specialists, music therapy specialists, and art therapy specialists)
Major Features
The educational goal of the counseling and clinical psychology department is to
cultivate experts with expertise and research skills in the field of counseling and
clinical psychology. With various psychotherapy theories and techniques along with
the theoretical learning of psychological tests, and field practice, it helps people
obtain certification in related fields and play roles as field experts. Through the
learning of psychology research methodologies and experimental designs along with
a wide range of domestic and international papers, the latest research trends in
this field can be understood and research can be conducted, contributing to the
development of the field of psychology.
HYCU Psychological Counseling Center
The HYCU Psychological Counseling Center aims to cultivate high level counseling personnel by providing counselor education and an actual practice environment. Psychological counseling experts or clinical psychology experts consists of one or more part-time counselor, full-time counselors, and professional supervisors assists graduate students in counseling internships.
Undergraduate Course
Faculty members with a solid theoretical foundation and hands-on experience work to foster effective counselors. The curriculum consists of courses essential for the counseling practice and are available to help students acquire various qualifications related to mental health and self-growth, including those for counseling psychologist, youth counselor, play therapist, clinical psychologist, reading therapist, occupational counselor, and developmental psychologist, to name a few
