The department seeks to produce experts in the field of early childhood education and to assist children and families through related fields in the pursuit of effective methodologies and practical short/long-term solutions.
The department boasts of a number of highly qualified faculty members with doctoral degrees from universities at home and abroad who provide high-quality lectures and are eager to help students learn and study according to their specific major field. Moreover, to further assist students, the department utilizes a real-time video student guidance system to better monitor student progress.
Courses to covering the latest theories and methodologies
The program follows a curriculum that combines theory and application in order to produce well-round professionals. For the academic aspects, courses are offered that cover a broad range of subject matter all related to children and family counseling and therapy. On the other hand, in terms of practical skills, the curriculum incorporates the latest techniques including hi-tech resources as needed.
Courses for self-directed learning and cooperative learning
The program was designed for students to engage in student-centered, self-directed learning and cooperative learning tailored to students’ needs. Therefore, the department employs a specialized system that includes open, real-time video seminars as well as discussion rooms to focus on specific topics. Students can share their opinions and experiences in a setting that is conducive to active voluntary learning.
Specialized 1:1 guidance
The department offers a service to help students improve the writing particularly for their required thesis through 1:1 thesis writing guidance. Stdent get received assistance through input and advice to fully develop their research writing potential.
A curriculum for non-majors
The courses offered in the department are designed for majors and non-major alike. Thus, students not majoring in Child & Family Studies but are interested in some of the courses can still enroll and learn about theories related to child studies by completing prerequisite courses.
Curriculum that helps students earn national qualifications
Students who wish to obtain certificates can enroll in specially designed, specific classes to help prepare for the qualifying exams, including the Childcare Teacher Level 2 Certificate.
Tutor System
The department provides upon request, professional tutors with an educational background related to children and/or family studies. These assistants provide advice and offer various solutions to issues or problems that may arise for matters such as learning content, assignments, exams, overall progress, thesis writing, and so on.
Scholarships Available
A variety of scholarship programs are available on and off campus, such as a scholarship for excellent grades, a scholarship for employees, and the Hanyang Alumni Scholarship.
Nursing Teacher Certificate (National License)
The Nursing Teaching Certificate is a license for childcare and education professionals that can be acquired by completing 17 childcare and field training courses (51 credits) recognized by the Korea Childcare Promotion Agency’s Childcare Human Resources Development Bureau.

Youth Counselor Certificate (National Certificate)
The Youth Counselor Certificate is a license for counseling professionals that can be acquired by majoring in a counseling-related department and obtaining a degree, passing the qualification test administered by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea, and completing the training administered by the Korea Youth Counseling Institute.

Child Counselor Level 2 Certificate (Private Certificate)
The Child Counselor Level 2 Certificate is for those who have received a master's degree in children's studies and child-related studies, complete the 7 required subjects, pass the qualification test conducted by the Korean Children's Association, and complete the prescribed training course.

Family Counselor Certificate (Private Certificate)
The Family Counselor Certificate is for those who have obtained a master's degree in a field related to counseling, and is awarded by the Korea Family Counseling Association. The certificate can be acquired by those who engage in counseling practice at a professional counseling institution recognized by the association and pass a prescribed qualification test and qualification examination.

① Check Eligibility for Test
After obtaining their master's degree in a field related to counseling, students who have been engaged in counseling practice for 2 years or more under the supervision of a family counselor training supervisor recognized by the Korea Family Counseling Association at a professional counseling institution recognized by the Association, can obtain a certificate by passing the prescribed qualification exam and qualification examination.② Completion of Training Course
Students must perform family counseling-related work for at least 200 hours of counseling on-site (average 8 hours per week or more) under the guidance and supervision of a training supervisor at a counseling educational institution recognized by the Association. Students must also must attend an approved group counseling at least once (16 hours or more), personal counseling from a training supervisor at least 5 times, at give at least 4 case presentations, and have at least 2 group training sessions.※ Counseling training hours, family counseling cases, supervision, and group counseling hours can be accumulated submitted for promotion.

Married Couple Family Counseling Expert / Former: Family Therapist (Private Certificate)
The Married Couple Family Counseling Expert certification is for those who received a master's degree or higher in counseling related fields, pass the prescribed qualification test and the qualification examination after completing the required courses and training courses prescribed by the Korean Family Therapy Association.
